Ugly Ducting collection

The Ugly Ducting takes inspiration from two things: the basic element of drawing or ‘scribbling’ and a common household item, the duct hose. The lit-up line seems to jump out of the sketch book and takes 3D shape, forming bright, surreal scribbled lines. With a fixture holding the tubes, it gives the impression that the line is floating. Designed and made in Lee’s experimental centre, the Ugly Ducting is a prototype in an extended series of lamp design based on the idea of lines and ducting.

Ethereal collection

Pieces in the Ethereal collection may look like chairs, but they were initially created as art sculptures. They’re abstract, maybe a bit fragile, and clearly not meant to be functional. But they could be. Who is responsible for defining their role? The creator or the spectator? In other words, does function alone justify an object as ‘design’ or does the reflection that went into creating the object also qualify it as design? Lee created this series to question the line between design and art and the boundaries.
