Lilianna Manahan, Lilianna Manahan

References

Lilianna Manahan has been drawing reference from her immediate surroundings the past few years and has adopted a mindset that there is inspiration wherever she goes, even in the daily and mundane circumstances. This was even more obvious during the lockdowns, and her aim has always been to highlight those so-called mundane moments as special and part of a bigger beautiful picture.

Process

Manahan has been working with metals in different forms, whether through welding with craftsmen or metalsmithing jewellery. She has tried to adopt these techniques for big and small pieces to explore metal and the idea of decorative functional art, art jewellery and design objects. She usually works on smaller maquettes with paper or cardboard to sketch and brainstorm forms instead of drawing, and she usually tries to build the maquette the way she would join the pieces in metal.

With these lighting pieces she looks to explore how metal can be manipulated for modular wall-mounted design objects.
