Pipe series Bench by NAZARENO/LICHAUCO
Designers Rita Nazareno and Gabriel Lichauco have been collaborating on projects since 2016. Rita holds Master’s degrees in both communication arts (from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco) and design management (from the London College of Fashion). She is the creative director of ZACARIAS 1925, a brand of hand-woven bags and home accessories, and has participated in international trade shows in Milan, Florence, Paris, Dusseldorf, London, Singapore and Tokyo. Gabriel holds a Master’s degree in industrial design from the Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan. He founded the design practice openstudio in 2005, and the Emi-handmade brand in 2010. While in Milan, he actively participated in several projects with Artimede, Microsoft Italy, Piquadro and IRSAP. His projects in the Philippines include product, furniture and interior design. In 2019, Nazareno/Lichauco curated the Philippine participation at Maison&Objet Paris, and they have since undertaken the creative direction for the 2020–2022 editions. They also curated the 2020 design exhibition ITIM: Material Manipulations in Black, originally slated for Milan Design Week’s Fuorisalone and reinstalled in Manila and online on FAME+. Nazareno/Lichauco has its own production facility north of Manila.
