Harvest Textile panel 1 by Threadapeutic
Hana Surya is founder and creative director of Threadapeutic, a small band of local artisans with a shared passion for fabric reconstruction and a goal to minimise waste. Thread work has always been a source of therapy for Hana, who was taught to sew as a young girl by her seamstress mother. In 2015, Hana’s discovery of the wasteful culture in fast fashion led her to start a textile studio in East Jakarta with a focus on conscious production. Her team of local seamsters experiment with fabric offcuts and dead stock, creating one-off textile pieces for clients and designers — from contemporary bags and fashion accessories to home furnishings and tapestries. In this way Hana hopes to inspire her fellow manufacturers to discover new potentials in unwanted materials around them.
