Tarp Chair by Wei Xiang Tan
Tan Wei Xiang graduated in spatial and product design from LASALLE College of the Arts. After graduation, he worked as a carpenter, making furniture from trees grown specifically in Singapore — including species such as African mahogany, rain tree and tembusu, which had all been given a second life amid Singapore’s rapid development. Wei Xiang also worked as a technical executive in the School of Design at Temasek Polytechnic. One of his recent works is Recollect Cabinet, a piece representing the functional and emotional connections to everyday objects, guided by the themes of touch, conversations and different thought processes. The piece was designed for Discovered, a platform created by Wallpaper* and the American Hardwood Export Council, and was unveiled at the Design Museum in London in 2021. Wei Xiang currently works as a design modeller for Dyson.
