CORD Bench by Nathan Yong Design
Nathan Yong graduated from Temasek Polytechnic with a diploma in industrial design, and UNSW Sydney with a Master’s degree in design. In 2006 and 2007, he won the Red Dot Concept Design Award, and in 2008 he was Designer of the Year at the President’s Design Awards. Selected as one of the most promising young international designers by INTERNI magazine in 2011, Nathan has exhibited his work in cities such as Milan, Shizuoka and Taipei. He has also appeared in many international magazines, including Wallpaper*, Monocle and Surface. Nathan’s designs are inspired by the visual environment, and he aims to capture the poetry of products through a stripping process designed to make function, material, method and result as comprehensible as possible — a process he describes as “silent engineering”. Since 2017, Nathan has been a lecturer in product design at LASALLE College of the Arts. He also runs his own industrial design consultancy, with clients including Design Within Reach (USA), Living Divani (Italy), Elmood (Hong Kong), Mige (China) and Royal Selangor (Malaysia). Nathan is also the founder of FOLKS FURNITURE, a brand producing modern wooden furniture, and the co-founder of GRAFUNKT, a retail-based company specialising in contemporary furniture.
